Message #5: A Church that Enjoys True Community

Refresher - The Five Key Purposes for our Church (and every Christ-follower!), based on the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) spoken by Jesus, and seen in the early church (Acts 2:42-47)

a. Worshiping God in spirit and in truth, with gratitude
b. Serving People as we would ourselves, with generosity
c. Introducing Jesus to those around us, with intentionality
d. Building Christ-followers that are fruitful, with care
e. Enjoying Community in Christ forever, with unity

Introduction to Purpose #5 - Church that Enjoys True Community

The future of the church depends on whether it develops true community - unless we sense that we belong to each other, with masks off - the church of today will become: stale, irrelevant, a place of pretense where sufferers suffer alone, where pressure generates conformity. -- Larry Crabb

1. They mystical aspect of community in Christ (Ephesians 4)

2. The missional aspect of community in Christ (John 17)

3. The organizational aspect of community in Christ (selected 1 Timothy, 1 Peter)

4. Some obstacles to community in Christ

5. The covenant of community in Christ (Acts 2:42-47)
