preaching_the_whole_bible.jpgby Pastor Denis Beausejour

From his summer study, Pastor Denis shares a great resource to take you deeper into an overall understanding of the whole of scripture.

For
most people, the Bible is seen as authoritative and trustworthy — yet mysterious to the point of being incomprehensible. That's why we hope that you will decide to join us on our Epic Journey, and why our journey will include five learning angles.

We will:

  1. Read a modern English version for ourselves.
  2. Listen to a simple explanatory message every Sunday, designed to cover the major themes in what we have read, bridging time with relevant applications to our twenty-first century lives.
  3. Examine a series of visual charts that will be on the wall of our auditorium to help us, especially the visual learners, see the big picture of the story of the Bible.
  4. Discuss the experience in small groups. (List of Groups)
  5. Interact via an Internet discussion forum where you can ask questions and explore issues of the Christian faith at your pace, on your schedule, anonymously*.

Once
this journey is underway, you may find yourself longing to discover more or in need of an interpretive guide. One way to get a deeper grasp on the Bible is to read a good book which deals with biblical theology - explaining the meaning of the text of the Bible with the whole of scripture in mind.

Graeme Goldsworthy is a lecturer in Old Testament, Biblical theology, and hermeneutics at Moore Theological College in Sydney, Australia.

One book that has helped me tremendously in this regard is Preaching the Whole Bible as Christian Scripture, by an Australian scholar named Graeme Goldsworthy.

A great investment at $25, this book is for anyone desiring to go further in biblical study. While it is obviously written to the pastor who preaches, the non-technical style of the author makes it appropriate for lay readers.  It would be a great added resource for your personal Bible Study, for anyone who teaches in Sunday School, or to enhance discussions with family and friends.

May the Word of God draw you
to know your Creator
in new and deeper ways!

Pastor Denis
