I have been working through a number of books, and also spending quality time studying the gospel, especially through the eyes of Paul and his letter to the Galatians.
Summer Reading: Let Justice Roll Down The Passionate Church The Shaping of Things to Come Culture Shift Transformation Some of the books I have been reading include "Let Justice Roll Down" (the story of Mississippi pastor and civil rights leader John Perkins), "The Passionate Church" which has a wonderful approach to discipleship, "The Shaping of Things to Come" (which Kent Schellhause gave me) has challenged my thinking on how to be most effective as a church in Mariemont, "Culture Shift" and "Transformation" which are books about how a church can hear God's voice and become more of what Jesus had in mind. A couple of things I am noticing and thinking about. First, it strikes me that the gospel resulted in the death of Jesus and all his disciples, yet it seems to get yawns today in most of this country. Why? Are we missing something? Second, many of these books deal with balancing the "being" and the "doing" aspects of the Christian life. How are we doing on that? Are we truly resting in the supremacy and power of Jesus Christ, knowing that we cannot do anything to make Him love us more or less? Are we so enthralled with Him that we are able to hold the things of this world loosely and truly give ourselves to others in love? These are questions that are challenging me to the core as I reflect on my own journey with Jesus, and on the things I believe He is calling us to live out together! Love in Him, Pastor Denis
