Biblical Reflections on the Role Of Deacons in the Church The Greek word translated deacon in our Bibles has a variety of other meanings and uses in the New Testament, including serving, ministering, helping, caring, supporting, and administering. Many believe the first servants chosen by the Apostles in Acts, Chapter 6:1-6, are forerunners of this role in the Church. It is interesting that one of the main criteria noted in that passage is that candidates be filled with the Holy Spirit.
On Saturday, May 19, 3000 people from churches all over Cincinnati will reach out together to transform neighborhoods, serve the homeless, pray with the broken, paint schools, clean-up camps, and help make a difference in our city. MCC is excited to be a part of Go Cincinnati this year. We have been assigned three projects, focusing mainly on landscaping and building clean-up.
On Monday and Thursday afternoons create fabulous Vacation Bible School decorations for SonForce Kids. We meet in the Lounge at 3:30 and then head up to the attic where there's lots of space for tracing and painting. Children are welcome to help, but they must be accompanied by an adult. We'll be working throughout the month of May so clear some time on your calendar and join in the fun! (Visit our VBS site to see the theme or register!)
"Prayer is an investment. The time you dedicate to prayer isn't lost; it will return dividends far greater than what a few moments spent on a task ever could. ... prayer winds up being our last resort rather than our first response." — Dr. Charles R. Swindoll, Honorary Chairman Make your response to the call for prayer in one of three ways: MCC Prays is our commitment to fill ten hours of the day with prayers. U.C. basketball star, Terry Nelson, will be the guest speaker at the Mariemont Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. You might prefer to start your own effort, visit a prayer service, or join a local prayer walk. All details below!
Where did you growup? I grew up in the Bayou Country of Louisiana in a town called Lake Charles. The area was heavily French and I didn’t learn English until I started first grade, although my dad and last name – Romero, were Spanish. My French comes back to me when I visit my family there today.
